 The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality is a controversial bestselling book by Jerome Corsi intended by its author to oppose Barack Obama’s candidacy for President of the United States.^[1] The book alleges Obama’s “extreme leftism”, “extensive connections with Islam and radical politics”, “naïve…foreign policy”, past drug use and connections to corrupt backers, among other things.^[2] The book has been criticized for containing factual errors,^{[1][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]} as being racially charged,^[10][11][8] and as being a political “attack book” containing smears, falsehoods, and innuendo.^{[12][13][14][15]} FactCheck described the book as “a mishmash of unsupported conjecture, half-truths, logical fallacies and outright falsehoods.”^[16]

Corsi said his purpose in writing the book was to “defeat” Obama in the 2008 United States presidential election.^[1] In the book, he recounts Barack Obama’s upbringing and early political career in Chicago and argues that Obama is an “extreme leftis[t]” who should not be elected president. The book claims to document “Obama’s extensive connections with Islam and radical politics”, his “religious affiliation with … black-liberation theology”, and his associations with controversial pastor Jeremiah Wright, fundraiser Tony Rezko,^[9] and radical activists Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, formerly of the Weather Underground.^[2] The book also argues that Obama supports “far-left domestic policy” and “naïve … foreign policy predicated on the reduction of the military”, and that he is therefore unsuitable to be the President of the United States.^[2]

The Case Against Barack Obama, by author David Freddoso, is a bestselling book examining the life and opinions of United States presidential candidate and Senator Barack Obama. Freddoso is a political reporter for the website of the conservative magazine National Review. The subtitle of the book, published by Regnery Publishing, is “The Unlikely Rise and Unexamined Agenda of the Media’s Favorite Candidate”.

Freddoso said in an August 2008 interview that the book as an attempt to address what he sees as two wrong ways of considering Obama as a presidential candidate. The author wanted to counter those, including those in the news media, who look on Obama uncritically, and to do so in a way different from those who “are smearing him on the Internet for supposedly being a secret Muslim or supposedly not saluting the flag”.^[1] The book harshly criticizes Obama over policy matters, according to Ben Smith, a writer at The Politico. For the most part, the book is drawn from previously published sources, although Freddoso does do some original reporting.^[2]

Q: How did writing a book that you knew would be read so closely by so many compare to writing your first book, when few people knew who you were?
A: In many ways, Dreams from My Father was harder to write. At that point, I wasn’t even sure that I could write a book. And writing the first book really was a process of self-discovery, since it touched on my family and my childhood in a much more intimate way. On the other hand, writing The Audacity of Hope paralleled the work that I do every day–trying to give shape to all the issues that we face as a country, and providing my own personal stamp on them.

Q: What is your writing process like? You have such a busy schedule, how did you find time to write?
A: I’m a night owl, so I usually wrote at night after my Senate day was over, and after my family was asleep–from 9:30 p.m. or so until 1 a.m. I would work off an outline–certain themes or stories that I wanted to tell–and get them down in longhand on a yellow pad. Then I’d edit while typing in what I’d written.

Great audiobook! I really enjoyed it. Great motivator and a wonderful speaker. Very inspirational. There’s nothing negative in his writings. Only inspiration and hope. Hope for all people. I’m very selective when it comes to what I feed my brain and my children. There’s no negative and/or hate messages in his writings. I don’t know what else to say. Just read and judge for yourself. I’m not a tabloid or front page reader. You might say I’m from the show me state. I had to do the research to find out the truth. I respect, but I can’t agree with the review I just read. That’s why I got the books and did the research. Man is imperfect….it’s God I worship. I’m first and far most a member of the Democratic Party. That’s where my focus is. This is a very important time in our lives and no matter who gets to run in November on the Democratic ticket, I will support them. Out with the present damaged government and let’s work together towards a new one that’s cares about it’s people. Be careful, if you’re a Democrat, not to make statements that may damage the party due to the “favorite game”.
